Titus 2: How To Live Righteously When The World is Not.

Titus 2 is a letter from Paul to Titus, one of his children in the faith. It’s very similar to The Book of Timothy, and it reminds me a lot of our society today.

One of the things that amazes me when I read the Bible, is that people haven’t changed much over the last few thousand years. People say they’re progressive, but in reality, they’re regressive. While people leave the Truth of God, they pursue their selfish desires.

People crave a spiritual connection. In our world, many connections can be made to spiritual beings. However, Jesus is the only way to salvation. Everything else is at least a distraction, and at t your very soul is at stake.

Our society is turning back to paganism, and the worship of self.

Basically what I stated above is that sinful nature is still in effect, this nature will eventually kill the people who give in to it, and eventually, it will destroy them. Our only hope is surrendering to God and accepting his help to contain it.

In Titus 2, Paul gives instructions on how to teach people to live righteously, and at first, I was confused. I even asked myself shouldn’t it be obvious?

Back in Biblical/Roman times, the Christian lifestyle Paul was having Titus promote went against the grain. The known world had slaves and mistresses and had a follow-whatever-makes-you-happy mindset.

As you read that I hope you make a connection to what’s happening today.

Living righteously, was completely unheard of. It wasn’t in their society’s DNA. So they had to be taught.

Most People don’t realize this, but Christianity has completely transformed culture in the last two millennia and will continue to do so until Christ returns.

For example, major institutions like schools and hospitals developed from the mindset of loving your neighbor. Likewise, slavery was abolished because the Christian Church found it to be against the law of God.

I know that the last sentence can be a stretch to believe. Especially if you don’t know American history. However many of the people helping escaped slaves were Christians. Many more petitioned the government to release the slaves.

After slavery was abolished many northern Christians moved south to help the former slaves register to vote and teach them to read.

The ability to read gives people a huge leg up on getting out of poverty too.

People don’t understand this in our culture today, but true Christianity is loving God, and loving your neighbor. What kind of person would let their neighbor starve? Who wouldn’t run next door when you hear someone yelling for help?

This all came about because of Christianity, and our culture is losing that because we’ve walked away from Christ. Our Sinful nature and desires have been taking over, but we can’t let ourselves fall into the darkness.

We need to promote righteous teaching and Titus 2 gives us directions for that.

Titus 2: Promote Right Teaching

As for you, Titus, promote the kind of living that reflects wholesome teaching. Teach the older men to exercise self-control, to be worthy of respect, and to live wisely. They must have sound faith and be filled with love and patience.

Similarly, teach the older women to live in a way that honors God. They must not slander others or be heavy drinkers. Instead, they should teach others what is good. These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children, to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God.

In the same way, encourage the young men to live wisely. And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good works of every kind. Let everything you do reflect the integrity and seriousness of your teaching. Teach the truth so that your teaching can’t be criticized. Then those who oppose us will be ashamed and have nothing bad to say about us.

Slaves must always obey their masters and do their best to please them. They must not talk back 10 or steal, but must show themselves to be entirely trustworthy and good. Then they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive in every way.

Titus 2:1-10
Titus Smaller 1

Here in Titus 2, Paul gives us a breakdown of different issues people fall into, and these are issues many of us struggle with today.

We need to be loving God and let go of Our sins. True Repentance is what we need. There are many Christians in the church today, who say they love God but hate their neighbor. This is contrary to God’s law.

This is what the Bible predicted when it says they have the look of Godliness but deny its power. That’s a dangerous place to be, you know the truth, refuse to act on it, and give Jesus a black eye because of it.

This is why Titus 2 is so important, we need to clean up our act because the world is watching. They know something is different about us, but they don’t know what. And if you’re actions are the same as theirs.

What are they going to find?

If the people see nothing eventually they’ll lie to themselves, saying they saw nothing, and they’ll go on their way. Never heard more about the Gospel of Jesus.

I don’t want to be responsible for that. It terrifies me because there are people that I never shared Jesus with, and I was good friends with them.

Titus 2 explains why we need to live good and righteous lives because that is a testimony we can make, without speaking a word.

Titus 2

Titus 2: The Grace Of God Has Been Revealed.

11 For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people. 12 And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God, 13 while we look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed. 14 He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.

15 You must teach these things and encourage the believers to do them. You have the authority to correct them when necessary, so don’t let anyone disregard what you say.

Titus 2:11-15

Titus 2 is a really short chapter, it only contains 15 verses but there’s a lot of meat here. I wrote a paragraph or two above that fit here.

Our society today needs true repentance, without repentance, we reject salvation. Many people believe coming forward and repeating a prayer will save you, and that’s not true.

Salvation is a gift of God, you can’t earn it. However, true repentance helps keep it. You can’t say I’ll follow you anywhere God on Sunday, then live like hell the rest of the week.

It doesn’t work that way, and you need to focus on him, life righteous, and learn more about God.

Otherwise, troubles will come, and you will fall away because you didn’t build your house on God, and that is just sad because you know the truth.

Titus 2

I urge you, to turn your heart to Jesus NOW!!! Let him restore your life and your very soul. Live your life with him leading and directing you. You’ll be amazed at what he does with it.
