Victory In Jesus; 3 Ways To Walk In Victory

Victory in Jesus is a Chruch Hymn written by Eugene M. Bartlett Sr. The song was written after Eugene suffered a paralyzing stroke in 1939. The song is about the death of Jesus, and how he came to save and heal humanity.

Victory in Jesus is a beautiful song, not many of these songs exist in the church today. Don’t get me wrong, I love the praise and worship that we have today. But there’s something open, and truthful about Victory in Jesus.

However, I don’t wanna get ahead of myself either.

To have Victory in Jesus, we have to humble ourselves, repent, and ask Jesus for his help.

In today’s day and age, that doesn’t happen very often. We often get prideful, because we lose focus on God, and instead become focused on ourselves.

There’s a fine line between confidence and cockiness, and I’ve walked the line closely especially when I was in my 20s.

What Does it Mean to Have Victory In Jesus?

In John 8:32 Jesus says that you shall know the truth, and the truth will set you free. Interestingly enough, when you’ve read this far in John, you’ve already read that Jesus is the way to freedom. Receiving freedom from Christ is having Victory in Jesus.

In essence, Jesus was saying when you know me, that’ll set you free.

We are all born sinners, however, when we surrender to Jesus, God adopts us and gives us a new birthright. Before adoption, our birthright was sin and death. The Bible also states that the wages of sin is death.

So while we were sinners, on our way to hell. Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit concocted a plan to give us Victory, and that Victory only came through Jesus.

Where is the Victory Jesus won?

If you’re like me, you’ve spent a lot of time wondering about this very question. If God promised life and life more abundantly (Or Victory In Jesus). Where is it?

Why are we still living paycheck to paycheck, seemingly in slavery to this world? The situation seems hopeless, but sometimes I wonder if we have the wrong idea of what victory in Jesus truly is.

In truth, I believe in my heart that you’re not meant to be slaving away. I don’t mean times should be good. Or we should be wealthy as Christians? Paul said he was content whether he was in need, or when he had abundance.

Many people live their lives sitting in prison cells of their design. They don’t realize the door to freedom is wide open, and the lock is gone. However, they still sit in a corner holding the chains that once bound them.

This isn’t Victory in Jesus, instead, it’s enslavement by self. And many Christians continue to be locked up, while the door to their freedom is wide open. They have Victory in Jesus right in front of them, but for whatever reason, they won’t walk through the door.

How Do You Get Victory In Jesus?

Victory in Jesus is not something you can earn, purchase, or win. Victory in Jesus has come because he has given you freedom and victory already. As a child of God, we need to accept his gift and take our place as sons and daughters in his kingdom.

However many of us are blind, and many more won’t trust God. So we sit in those prisons that I spoke about earlier—all the while complaining that God isn’t doing anything when he’s done everything he can.

We need to accept the victory, trust in him, and get moving.

Accept The Victory – It’s The First Step

The first and second steps to Victory in Jesus are very similar. However, where they differ for me is that accepting victory is believing in what Jesus accomplished on the cross.

It’s the first step because you can’t trust him until you understand what he did.

What did he do?

When Jesus died and rose again he made a path for us all. On this path, he defeated the roadblocks of sin and death. This was a victory promised by all the Old Testament prophets.

As I stated above, victory and freedom are pretty much the same things. You can’t have one without the other. But you have to accept what Christ did for you.

That’s the hard part, many people have trouble believing in the past, this stems from lies they’ve heard and truths they don’t know.

But this is why you need to study the bible. Jesus states in John 8:32 that we will know the truth, and the truth will set us free. How will we know the truth if we never read it? Can you learn the truth when you’re not around others seeking it?

I believe the answer to my questions above is yes. I believe God has placed truth in our hearts, or at the very least a desire to seek him out, and when we do. His truth is revealed to us.

If you want to achieve this 1st step to Victory in Jesus, you need to do the following, these are non-negotiables.

1. Read Your Bible
2. Pray
3. Find a bible believing spirit-filled church.

All 3 of these should be in harmony with each other, if your church isn’t in harmony with prayer/bible, you have a problem and need to move on.

*Side note, God will never go against his word, Make that your foundation.

Trusting in God, the 2nd Step

Trusting in God is hard for me. I’m not going to lie, there have been a few times in my life that I’ve felt God let me down, and it’s something I have to deal with all the time.

I know many of you out there read it and are up in arms. How dare he say God let him down? He did, but it’s my fault.

I had the wrong desires, dreams, and focus. God didn’t come through for me my world collapsed around me, and God did nothing to stop it.

He had the power to do it, but he let it all collapse.

Every time this happened, I was too young and naive to realize that my dreams weren’t God’s. He needed to destroy what I wanted so that I would focus on him.

This has caused some issues with trusting him, but only when I’m holding onto my dreams. When I get over myself and surrender to him. I have perfect peace,

So let go of yourself, what you want, and whatever you think is needed.

God has his plan. Listen to him, obey him, and do what he says. You’ll be a lot happier, and the path you follow with him will be more fulfilling.

Get Moving The Third Step:

Keep in mind as I write about Victory in Jesus, that I’m writing to myself too. It seems the more I write the more God convicts me of what I’m doing wrong.

And that conviction brings me closer to him.

Christians like to get lazy and use terms like, “Waiting on God.” Or “I’m praying about the right direction.”

Sometimes, God just wants you to make a choice and go. He gave you free will for a reason so use it. One of my biggest frustrations is seeing Christians sitting on the sidelines for years because they say they’re in a season of waiting.

Well, how about you bloom where you’re planted?

You’re waiting on God to tell you what country to be a missionary to? Why aren’t you reaching your neighbors? Serving at your local church, doing prayer and intercession.

My list can go on, and most of the above are things I’ve been forcing myself to do. Because I like to wait, waiting can be fun. I watch a ton of Netflix, play a lot of video games, and do nothing with my life.

But that’s not Victory in Jesus, that’s life, and life less abundant than what Jesus promised. And it’s all because I’m not getting up and doing something.

I wonder if sometimes we’re complaining to God about not having the victory, and he’s sitting there looking at us on the couch screaming.

PLEASE!!! DO SOMETHING!!!

Be we can’t hear him over the sound of munching popcorn and the latest movie soundtrack.

Not only are we blind to the exit of our prison, but we are deaf to the one who set us free.

The victory is here, you need to accept it. Jesus is calling for you, and waiting outside the jail cell. Are you going to answer his call?
